Hepatitis B\u00a0Vaccine Recommendations:<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Hepatitis B\u00a0vaccine helps to protect\u00a0against\u00a0<\/span>Hepatitis B<\/span><\/a>. The\u00a0Hepatitis B\u00a0vaccine series (3\u00a0doses) is recommended for children at\u00a0birth,\u00a01-2, 6-18 months\u00a0of age.\u00a0Three\u00a0appropriately spaced doses are\u00a0required\u00a0for all children entering Kindergarten in Virginia.\u00a0Please refer to\u00a0<\/span>supplemental guidance<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for School-Required Immunizations.\u00a0\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The estimated vaccine coverage on this page is reflective of doses reported to Virginia's Immunization Information System (VIIS), which has some limitations to keep in mind when reviewing the information.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Vaccine coverage data by demographic is provided only at the state level. This includes race, ethnicity, and sex. The demographics data is at the state level due to potential privacy concerns.\u00a0 Some race\/ethnicity categories show lower uptake than expected, and some of this can be attributed to a significant number of records with unreported race or ethnicity.\u00a0 This may also be attributed to VDH\u2019s use of Tiered Race and ethnicity methodology. It is explained here: <\/span>https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/coronavirus\/2020\/06\/16\/race-and-ethnicity-reporting-update\/<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All vaccinations have\u00a0<\/span>been required<\/span>\u00a0to be reported to VIIS since January 1, 2022, and for Vaccines for Children (VFC) providers since 2017. VIIS has accepted vaccination data since 2009, including transcribed records administered before that time. However, there may be vaccines administered to people that are not reflected in VIIS. This may more\u00a0<\/span>adversely impact<\/span>\u00a0bordering localities where residents may seek vaccination in other states, and those doses are not reported to VIIS. There may also be vaccines administered to people reported in VIIS who\u00a0<\/span>are no longer residents of Virginia<\/span>. The denominator source data is from the American Community Survey (ACS) of the US Census<\/span> and calculates <\/span>single-age<\/span>\u00a0population estimates from a 5-year age grouping, divided by 5. This\u00a0<\/span>methodology<\/span>\u00a0has the potential to lead to\u00a0<\/span>possible imprecision<\/span>. A 95%\u00a0<\/span>maximum<\/span>\u00a0coverage rate has been implemented due to\u00a0<\/span>possible imprecision<\/span> in the population estimates. This can adversely affect lower-populated areas more than higher-populated areas. The data is refreshed weekly on Tuesdays and represents the selected age as of the refresh date.\u202f<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Data is suppressed when the count of the number vaccinated is between 1-9, to preserve anonymity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
